Itinerary Intro

Kararuan Coastal Recreation Area in Taitung is a wide-open coastal park along Highway 11, neighboring Xiaoyehliu and set against the backdrop of Dulan Mountain. Featuring drifting wood art installations, sweeping Pacific views, and horizon-defying seascapes, it’s become a celebrated spot for sunrise watchers and stargazers. The area’s minimal light pollution and immersive ocean vistas turn it into a profoundly serene escape.

Fugang Geological Park—known as "Xiaoyeliu" or “Little Yehliu”—lies north of Fugang Fishing Port in Taitung. Its sandstone and mudstone layers, sculpted by waves and coral accumulation, have formed captivating features like honeycomb, tofu-shaped, mushroom, turtle, and tilted ridges. The coastal trail weaves through dunes, native plants, and tide pools with hermit crabs and coastal fish. Facilities include a visitor center, sea-view paths, and even camping areas. On clear days, Green Island and Orchid Island are visible off the coast, while nighttime visits offer evocative encounters with nocturnal shore life.

Taitung Forest Park, just outside the city center, spreads across 280 hectares and is affectionately nicknamed the “Black Forest” for its dense beefwood groves that shield coastal winds. The park features three scenic lakes—Pipa Lake, known for its crystal-clear waters; Egret Lake, a birdwatching hotspot; and the Active Water Lake, designed for water sports use. With its tranquil forest paths, expansive lawns, and bike-friendly trails, it offers an ideal retreat for families, couples, and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

Taitung Seashore Park, located at the end of Datong Road in Taitung City, offers free access to scenic coastal paths, plazas, public art, and the striking rattan-roofed “Sun Tree” landmark. Visitors can stroll, cycle, or picnic by the vast Pacific, catch sunrise over Green and Orchid Islands, and, in the evenings, enjoy immersive light and music shows that light the shoreline.

Tiehua Music Village, part of the Tiehua Creative District in Taitung, is a revitalized cultural hotspot housed in old railway warehouses. By day, visitors can enjoy cycling and exploring the artsy shipping-container market and painted trackside platform. At night, the space transforms into a musical sanctuary with Indigenous music performances, artisan street stalls, and illuminated “Twilight Bazaar” decorations—a unique blend of art, community, and slow city living.

Luye Highland sits atop a hill in Taitung’s East Rift Valley at approximately 350 m elevation, offering sweeping views of the Beinan River Valley and lush farmland. It is best known for hosting the annual Taiwan International Balloon Festival every summer (June–August)—where vibrant hot air balloons fill the sky. Beyond the balloons, the grassy slopes are popular for paragliding, grass sledding, leisurely picnics, and scenic strolls. Even outside festival season, Luye offers a peaceful rural escape.
