Itinerary Intro

Jiufen Old Street is a historic hillside town with Japanese-era architecture, red lanterns, and narrow cobbled alleys lined with food stalls and teahouses. It’s a top “Taiwan old-town experience,” especially magical at dusk when the lanterns light up the night.

Houtong Cat Village, located in Ruifang District, New Taipei, is Taiwan’s most famous cat-friendly village. Once a coal mining town, it has transformed into a whimsical destination where dozens of cats roam freely among cat-themed shops, cafes, and murals. Just steps from Houtong Train Station, it’s a perfect stop for families, couples, and animal lovers exploring the Pingxi-Jiufen area.

Upon exiting Ruifang Station, you’re in the heart of a quaint town blending mining heritage with seaside charm. Visit the Ruifang Visitor Center and DIY glass bottle workshop, stroll through the artsy “No-Sky Alley,” and wander Ruifang Old Street for treats like Yuyuan and baked goods. The nearby Houtong Miner’s Museum offers insights from retired miners — making this a perfect introduction to “Ruifang’s local culture and creative vibes.”

Ruifang Food Court, located just across from Ruifang Train Station, is a bustling food hub featuring over 30 vendor stalls. Famous for its pepper buns, sika-bean curd soup, oyster omelets, and beef noodle soup, this indoor food court is an ideal meal stop for travelers exploring Jiufen or Houtong. With its central location and variety of local snacks, it’s the go-to spot for experiencing “local Ruifang cuisine” on the go.
