Itinerary Intro
From Jiufen to the beach | Return to Taipei along northern Taiwan's most beautiful coastline
Jiufen Old Street is a historic hillside town with Japanese-era architecture, red lanterns, and narrow cobbled alleys lined with food stalls and teahouses. It’s a top “Taiwan old-town experience,” especially magical at dusk when the lanterns light up the night.

Starting from Jiufen and heading north along Taiwan’s coastal highway unveils one of the most beautiful seaside journeys on the island. This route passes through Bitou Cape, Longdong Bay, Fulong Beach, Wai’ao, and ends at Wushi Harbor in Toucheng. With sweeping ocean views and seaside villages along the way, it’s a perfect “coastal road trip from Jiufen” that can be paired with hot springs, seafood stops, and iconic coastal hikes.

This long-established rice dumpling shop in Shimen is a beloved local stop along Taiwan’s northern coast. Known for its traditionally steamed southern-style zongzi with savory fillings like salted egg yolk, pork belly, and peanuts, the dumplings are wrapped in bamboo leaves and packed with flavor. A perfect roadside snack or light meal for those exploring the “North Coast food route” by car.

Taiwan’s North Coast is dotted with oceanfront cafés that offer the perfect blend of scenic views and cozy atmospheres. From Jinshan to Shimen and Sanzhi, you’ll find Instagrammable spots like Cape Café, Echo Beach Café, and White Dream Coffee — ideal for sipping a latte while watching the waves roll in. These ocean-view cafés are must-stops for travelers seeking slow moments along the coast or simply a photogenic coffee break during a seaside road trip.

Fufuding Mountain Temple, known as the “Shell Temple” for its exterior decorated with seashells and coral, is a unique spiritual landmark along Taiwan’s North Coast. Dedicated to Mazu and sea deities, it’s a popular place for locals and travelers to offer blessings for peace, love, and success. With panoramic ocean views and intricate marine-themed architecture, it offers both cultural depth and serene moments during a coastal road trip.

As an optional add-on, you can extend your evening with a visit to Shilin Night Market — Taipei’s largest and most iconic food market. From jumbo fried chicken to oyster omelets and mango shaved ice, it’s a true “Taiwan street food adventure.” With shops, local snacks, and lively crowds, this is a perfect after-dinner activity for those wanting to explore Taipei by night.
