Itinerary Intro
Rainbow Village in Taichung began as an unassuming veterans' housing area rescued from demolition by a retired soldier, Mr. Huang Yung‑fu—now affectionately known as “Grandpa Rainbow.” Since 2008, he has painted nearly every surface with vivid, childlike murals, transforming the village into a vibrant living art gallery. This whimsical enclave, lovingly preserved by local artists and the city, is free to enter and widely celebrated as an Instagram favorite and cultural testament to creative preservation.

Miyahara Ophthalmology, established in 1927 by Japanese ophthalmologist Dr. Miyahara Takekuma, was once the largest eye clinic in Taichung during the Japanese rule. Following years of decay, the Dawn Cake Group revitalized the historic red‑brick building in 2010, preserving its facade and arcade while transforming its interior into a breathtaking confectionery boutique and ice‑cream parlor. Inside, antique medicine cabinets and drawers line the walls under a vaulted glass ceiling, creating a grand, library‑like ambiance likened to a Harry Potter fantasy setting.

Gaomei Wetlands, at the southern mouth of the Dajia River in Taichung, spans approximately 1,500 hectares of diverse tidal flats combining sand and mud. It supports a rich ecosystem including migratory birds, crabs, mudskippers, and sedges like Cyperus malaccensis. The iconic wooden boardwalk extends across the wetlands, offering dramatic coastal and sunset views, with wind turbines providing an atmospheric silhouette—ideal for wildlife photography and eco tourism.

Fengjia Night Market in Taichung is one of Taiwan’s largest and most beloved night markets. Stretching across vibrant streets filled with food stalls, it offers everything from oversized chicken chops, stinky tofu, and pan-fried egg crepes, to sweet treats like taro shaved ice and caramel-coated sweet potato balls. Buzzing with energy, it's a perfect spot for a nighttime foodie adventure and Instagram-worthy street food crawl.
